Cheadle Town Stingers Finale

Cheadle Town Stingers look forward to Sunday’s FA Women’s National League fixture against AFC Fylde knowing victory and a Middlesbrough defeat, draw or a Stingers victory where they can claw back a 3 goal difference deficit, then they’ll become champions of the First Division North [Tier 4].

A quite remarkable position to be in since our journey with the Stingers began in 2018. Many people within Cheadle Town Football Club never believed we would be in this position since that time, but it’s nothing more than everyone involved deserves.

Since our grassroots days when we had a competitive side in the North West Women’s Regional League when we deservedly won the League last season. We have only gone from strength to strength since the season began in last August. We certainly had a tough start with a trip to Middlesbrough where we were edged out by a single goal, and it was this game and the following victories against York City, Chorley and Barnsley that we made the opinion that we’re a good enough side that could actually make a go of this league. This was certainly opposite of our thoughts in pre-season when we looked towards survival in the FA Women’s National League.

Having worked alongside the Stingers Management Team since 2018 to where we are now, this is something that I have personally witnessed the potential over the past few years as they have won trophies and had some memorable runs in the Women’s FA Cup. It now all comes down to the last game of the season, where some many permutations between Middlesbrough and ourselves means a dream could finally be achieved on Sunday afternoon.

Whatever happens on Sunday I can reflect on the amazing season that we have, with personal highlights being our run in the Women’s FA Cup which sadly ended in defeat at West Bromwich Albion. Also victories on the road at Barnsley, Leeds United and Doncaster Rovers Belles were certainly memorable.

So if you’re not doing anything this Sunday, get yourself down to the Ground Up Solutions Stadium [KO 2:00pm] for what is hopefully going to be a remarkable day.
