Cheadle Town 1-8 Stockport County
Cheadle Town tumbled out of the Cheshire Senior Cup thanks to this heavy defeat at the hands of Stockport County
Shortly before the match, the official Cheadle Town FC Twitter account received a mention from a County fan informing us that we would be on the end of a heavy defeat...or that we would be, to use his vernacular, "pied".
He'll be pleased that his team didn't disappoint.
Nine goals shared, albeit the lion's portion - and then some - went the way of our close neighbours from the National League North as their chosen blend of youngsters and First XI fringe players ran riot.
An indication of the size of the task was evident early on. County pinged a shot inches wide of Danny Whiting's post with barely a minute on the clock with Danny then having to claw an awkward cross onto the crossbar moments later.
On the 16th minute they got their first of the evening when a ball across the face of goal wasn't cleared, finding the very useful Bohan Dixon on the edge of the area to drill home.
On the 25th minute they got their second. A "route one" ball was met by both County's Adam Thomas and our Danny Whiting, with the former winning the race, knocking it past Danny and tapping into an empty net.
Mr Thomas got his second of the match - and County's third - five minutes later. He was left unattended on the edge of the box following a corner and he belted home.
Remeece Brown curled a shot just wide on 35 minutes before an action-packed remaining three minutes of the half would see a further three goals.
Dixon got his second for County after he leathered home a cross to make it 0-4 before we got ourselves on the card straight from the restart; great work by Remeece Brown down the left saw him square it for Jake Ambrose who took his time and picked his spot.
From the restart, 1-5 to County. Yet again we left a player unattended on the edge of the box from a corner: Harry Brazel the benefactor this time around, stroking home into the far corner.
We had a great opportunity to reduce arrears in the opening moments of the second half but County's custodian Ian Ormson did well to tip Joe Shaw's header over the bar.
In the 50th minute County stretched their lead when Dixon bagged his hat-trick with a superb first-time finish from a whipped-in ball from the left.
Remeece Brown curled another effort just wide of a post once more and Danny Whiting made an excellent save to tip a fierce drive over the bar before County's substitute Jordan Peach came on and gave us more headaches, being instrumental in County's last two goals thanks to his pace.
His crosses from the right were swept home by Mssrs West and Czubik on 69 and 81 minutes respectively, shifting the scoreline from a heavy defeat to the "pie" canon.
Our chance to get a second came towards the end on a counter-attack. Neat footwork by Adam Gardiner put him in a decent position on the right of the box, with his clever backheel finding Liam Delaney who looked set to score. However, he took one touch too many, giving the County defence the chance to clear.
Many, many thanks to all of the Stockport County fans who turned up on this chilly November Wednesday evening and boosted the gate to a healthy 410 and all the best for the rest of the season and the Cheshire Senior Cup.
For us, it's a chance to lick the wounds and look forward to league matters once more this weekend as a trip to Whitchurch Alport beckons.

Cheadle Town 2-4 Runcorn Town
Cheadle Town were on the wrong end of a stirring comeback as Runcorn Town took the honours in this Cheshire Senior Cup tie
A frustrating evening.
Not because we let a 2-0 lead slip but the fact that we played well enough - and created enough chances - to have had the match out of Runcorn Town's sight before they hauled themselves back into contention.
We couldn't have asked for a better start against opposition that are currently top of the Premier Division.
We were 2-0 up within the first six minutes.
On the 5th minute Luke Hincks called for the ball to be played inside from the right and netted a looping shot from 30 yards out. Barely sixty seconds later Sam Noar went on a run down the left before cutting inside and burying the ball low to the keeper's right.
The next significant chance didn't come until the 24th minute but it resulted in another goal, this time for the visitors when Craig Cairns connected with a low cross from the right and clipped home from close range.
Runcorn Town tried the same move again just after the half-hour mark but Steve Piggott was equal to it this time, getting down low to make an excellent block.
Four minutes later down the other end Rick Whyatt had a great chance to restore our two-goal advantage but thumped his shot over the bar when through on the right.
After the half-time break we then had two or three excellent chances to put the match out of reach.
On 49 minutes Luke Hincks made a neat turn in the box but his first-time effort was met with an excellent save by the keeper on the line with an unmarked Sam Noar then finding the ball at his feet in the area some six minutes later; perhaps he had too much time to think as his turn and shot sailed harmlessly over the bar.
Liam Tongue then sent one of his trademark piledrivers inches wide of the post before Rick Whyatt found himself clean through on goal on the 70th minute. Looking set to score the attentions of a defender seemed to put him off as he lost control of the ball at the vital moment.
Deciding that we had squandered enough chances that they had presented us, the footballing Gods turned their attention to Runcorn Town who gratefully accepted and turned the match around.
On 72 minutes a free-kick from the right found Simon Thelwell on the far side of the box where he placed a well-measured curler over the head of Piggott before Craig Cairns then netted his second of the match two minutes later, latching onto a floated free-kick to poke the ball over the onrushing Piggott.
With a minute remaining, Joe Holt sealed the deal for the visitors, collecting a diagonal ball from the left and finishing easily at the far post.
Despite the result, plenty of positives to take from the performance and plenty to take into the final chapter of #ThreeCupsWeek, a visit to City of Liverpool for the First Division Trophy.

Cheadle Handed Plum Draw in Cheshire Senior Cup
Cheadle Town have been handed high-ranking opposition in this year's Cheshire Senior Cup
The Cheshire Senior Cup: as the name suggests the cup competition which all clubs under the Cheshire FA's jurisdiction enter, regardless of their level on the footballing pyramid.
This opens the possibility for us to flex our muscles against much loftier opposition if the balls come out of the felt bag in the right way and none more so than this year's competition where we have been pitted against National League's Tranmere Rovers at Park Road.
As things stand the tie has been earmarked for week commencing Monday 11th January 2016; watch this space for confirmation of the date as our allocated midweek night of Wednesday would mean a clash with the Manchester City v Everton Premier League match at The Etihad that night and we would like to do our best to maximise attendance for our fixture any which way we can.
Cheadle's record in this competition in recent years has seen us try our luck against a range of opposition from all levels, with differing results.
Notable performances include those in 2006-07 where we put in a solid performance to knock out Winsford United - then riding high in Division One of the NWCFL - 1-0 on their own turf before taking Stalybridge Celtic to extra-time at Park Road before eventually losing out 2-4.
2011-12 also saw us make it through to the following round. We put in a complete performance to see off Vauxhall Motors - then of the Northern Premier League - by a 1-0 scoreline at Park Road before a crazy evening at Cantilever Park - home of Northern Premier League's Warrington Town - where nine goals were shared in a match that went to extra-time.
It goes without saying that sometimes the gap between us and our opposition has been too big to bridge.
Stalybridge Celtic thumped us 1-7 in 2005-06, Witton Albion put five past us in a 2-5 defeat at Park Road in 2008-09, our two consecutive visits to Northwich Victoria in 2009-10 and 2010-11 saw us ship nine goals in total without reply and a visit to Hyde United a couple of seasons back saw us put in a decent performance but finally relent and go down with a 0-5 defeat.
Whatever happens it promises to be an entertaining night at Park Road with a bumper crowd. Keep your eyes peeled on this website and on Twitter for further details nearer the time.
