Players Roll Back The Years for Andy Lindon's Testimonial

It was a wonderful afternoon of vintage football as old names gathered for Andy Lindon's Testimonial Match at Park Road

Players from the Cheadle Town FC roster of some ten years ago came together once more to tread the Park Road baize for Andy Lindon's testimonial match.

Trevor Howard's XI
BACK: Adam Roberts, Clark, Dickin, Piggott, Brocklehurst, Jack, Trevor Howard (manager)
FRONT: Ben Roberts, Lindon, Flanagan, Dan Brokenbrow, Woods

Steve Brokenbrow's XI
BACK: Steve Brokenbrow (manager), Street, Smith Jnr, Smith, O'Keefe, Thommo, Cotterill, Logan
FRONT: McDonagh, Martin, Hussain, Brad Brokenbrow, Brennan

For the record it was Trevor Howard's XI that came out on top with a 4-1 victory.

Amongst the goals was Andy Lindon himself, netting a penalty. Dean Martin also showed that he still "had it" in front of goal, curling in a peach of an effort and Scott 'The Wasp' Flanagan chipped in with a cool finish.

Current Reserves team coaching staff Chris Woods and Dave McGreal also got a run out, with Woods showing some unselfish play to set up Rob Brocklehurst for a tap-in.

A good time was had by all and it was pleasing to see so many old faces turn up.

Our thanks to those who also donated at the gate in aid of the Bradley Lowery Foundation; those monies plus any profits made from the sales of drink and food will go to the charity.

Andy is presented with the shirt - all signed by today's attendees - he wore when he scored versus FC United of Manchester way back in the 2005-06 season

Andy Lindon Testimonial Match

This Saturday we will be hosting a special match to celebrate the career of Andy Lindon who has been with the club since 2005

Andy Lindon Testimonial

Trevor Howard XI v
Steve Brokenbrow XI

This Saturday we will be hosting a special testimonial match for our most long-standing player at the club, Andrew Lindon.

Andy has been with the club since 2005.

Starting off at Reddish Vulcans he followed his then manager to Burnage Metro and stayed there for two seasons, winning the Young Player of the Season award at the end of each.

Andy followed a member of his coaching staff once more when Steve Brokenbrow made the move from Burnage Metro to Cheadle Town.

Steve will be one of the ex-Cheadle managers who will be leading the two sides going face-to-face this Saturday; Trevor Howard (who was Steve's predecessor) will be the other.

The two squads will consist of a handful of current squad players plus many who played with Andy during his time with the club: Ben & Adam Roberts, Barry Cotterill, Johnny Hussain, Rob Brocklehurst, Arron Riley, Dean Martin, Tommy Greally, Scott Clark, Scott 'The Wasp' Flanagan, Andy Street, Craig Brennan, Daniel & Brad Brokenbrow, Sam Hall and Neal Logan to name but a few.

Admission fee will be on a "pay what you want" basis on Saturday with all donations at the gate going towards the Bradley Lowery Foundation.

The clubhouse will be open as per usual and, weather permitting, we will also be hosting a barbecue.

Kick-off is at 3.00pm.

Opening Fixtures & FA Vase Draw Announced

We know who we will be facing in the FA Vase this season...plus the opening round of league fixtures for August

Time to break out the diaries.

The draw for the early rounds of the FA Cup and FA Vase were announced over the weekend alongside the Hallmark Security League publishing the first round of league fixtures for August.

So let's take a closer look....

Unfortunately we are not in the FA Cup this season but are, of course, in the FA Vase.

We will travel to Northern Counties East League outfit Rossington Main in the First Qualifying Round of the competition on Saturday 9th September.

The winners of that tie will host either Hallam or Abbey Hey in the Second Qualifying Round two weeks later.

As far as the league campaign is concerned we have had our August mapped out for us.

We will kick off our 2017-18 season away to Atherton LR which is then followed by our first home match of the season when Alsager Town visit Park Road on Wednesday 16th August.

As things stand the Saturday 19th August is free...but that may change depending on who is eliminated from the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round.

We then face one of our longer trips of the season as we travel to Oswestry Town on Saturday 26th August before another midweek home match versus Prestwich Heys on Wednesday 30th August.

The rest of the league fixtures should be published towards the end of this month so watch this space for more details.

Cheadle Town 2-2 Glossop North End

Cheadle Town got their pre-season under way with this encouraging 2-2 draw at home to NPL1's Glossop North End

It has been something of a tumultuous summer at Park Road for one reason and another so we were extremely pleased to get some actual football played the other night against Glossop North End for the first of our pre-season friendlies.

In order for both (new) managers to get a look at as many different players as possible, it was decided to run this match as 3 x 30-minute periods; a tad transatlantic but it served a purpose.

As is the case each summer there was a mix of faces new and familiar and it's going to take Anthony Trucca the full course of the pre-season programme to find his perfect mix.

Things almost got off to a demoralising start as Glossop were awarded a penalty in the first minute; thankfully Adam Rigby was equal to it, a save that wouldn't have done his confidence any harm whatsoever.

Nine minutes into the second period we broke the deadlock when George Clary received a cross from the right and turned neatly before poking home from close range.

A gathering of thoughts and opinions at the end of the second period

Glossop drew level on 63 minutes when a long ball was gathered and finished well into the top corner before the power of a shot from the right on 83 minutes was too much for Ryan Allcock and he just couldn't prevent it from rolling in and giving Glossop the lead.

Tom Russell clattered the crossbar before we deservedly drew level with three minutes remaining. A short bout of head tennis in the box was finished off by Tom Ratican - hero of the Reserves' Stockport DFA Final - who headed home at the far post.

A good workout for all and plenty of food for thought...for both managers we should imagine.

Many thanks to the Glossop North End fans who turned up in numbers and gave us an impressive attendance of 224.

NWCFL AGM Round-Up

A round-up of the key points from this year's AGM in Blackpool

This year's NWCFL AGM took place on Saturday 17th July and once again in the surrounds of the Imperial Hotel in Blackpool.

You can view all of the main points from the NWCFL official website but from our own point of view the key information was as follows:

  • we say au revoir to Widnes, Charnock Richard and City of Liverpool as far as league matches are concerned as they were promoted from the First Division
  • we welcome back New Mills, Cammell Laird and Nelson to our league roster as they were relegated from the First Division
  • a new place to visit will be Abbey Hulton United as they were admitted into the First Division from the Staffordshire County Senior League
  • we say a sad farewell to Ashton Town who were relegated from the First Division; they will be playing in the Cheshire League next season

After the formalities of the AGM were dealt with the draws for the League Cup and First Division Trophy were made.

In the League Cup we received a bye to the Second Round where we will host the winners of Runcorn Town v Alsager Town.

For the First Division Trophy we will be travelling to Chadderton for the First Round; the winners of that tie will be hosting newcomers Abbey Hulton United in the Second Round.

The dates for these cup ties has yet to be decided, but the first two rounds of each competition will be held in midweek.

Our league campaign begins on Saturday 12th August. Fixtures usually start to be released on a gradual basis towards mid-July.

We will learn our fate in the FA Vase in early July and will learn whether we are in the FA Cup competition at the same time.

Keep a look out for the pre-season schedule which we will be publishing towards the end of this week.

Goodbye - and Thank You - to Terry Hincks

Our thank you to Terry Hincks who leaves the club after three-and-a-half seasons

Terry? Great guy, you’ll love him. He’ll drink all your coffee, though....
— Jonathan Haggart, Glossop North End FC

As you all know by now our First XI Manager Terry Hincks recently announced that he was stepping aside from his management duties at Cheadle Town FC.

Terry joined us from Glossop North End FC midway through the 2013-14 season, replacing Steve Brokenbrow as First XI Manager.

His first match was a heavy 1-4 home defeat to Formby which was then followed by two wins on the spin at home to Irlam and Eccleshall.

A run of seven matches without a victory was tempered by a strong end to the season of only one defeat in six as we finished 11th.

2014-15 was his first full season and he must have wondered what he had let himself in for as problems with our Main Stand and clubhouse meant we had to play our first nine league matches away from home. At one point we were on the outskirts of the play-offs but a poor end to the season put paid to any hopes and we finished 10th.

However, he managed to steer the team to those elusive play-offs the season after only to fall short in the semi-final at Barnton in extra-time.

The influence that Terry had off the pitch in his three-and-a-half seasons here can be summised in this quote from club secretary, Stuart Crawford:

"It has been a pleasure to work alongside Terry these past couple of seasons. Terry brought so much professionalism to the Football Club, from which I learnt so much from in my role as Club Secretary.

Terry expected his own passion and commitment to be replicated throughout the Football Club, which saw him oversee the rebuild of the Main Stand and more recently the work behind getting the new clubhouse ready for public use."

Personally I am indebted to Terry for all the advice and direction he has given me over the years and he has become true friend outside of football. Hopefully Terry can now have a well earned rest from football to recharge his batteries over the summer before he considers his options."

We wish Terry all the best and hope he can find the time to visit Park Road again at some point in the future.

Official Club Statement re China Trip

Official club statement re China trip

Cheadle Town Football Club's end-of-season tour to China has disappointingly been cancelled at the last minute.

The football club were due to travel to Beijing this Saturday for a 14-day tour but, due to a main sponsor pulling out at such a late stage, the club has had no choice but to cancel the trip. The club did attempt to explore all other possible options to make the tour happen; alas, it was simply too late to rescue the situation.

Cheadle Town FC were due to play a number of games in the Shaanxi province and would have been the first western club to visit that region.

It goes without saying that everybody at Cheadle Town FC are deeply disappointed to have to cancel what would have been a wonderful opportunity for everybody involved at the club.

We would like to place on record our thanks to the many local companies and individuals who had already contributed through sponsorship.

One last award to tell you about...and it is tinged with sadness.

Terry Hincks was given a special recognition award for all he has done for the club in his three-and-a-half seasons with us. Not only has he conducted matters from the bench but he has been there at the coalface to co-ordinate and complete work on the new clubhouse, changing rooms etc.

We are sad to announce that Terry has decided to step aside from First XI Management matters. Everybody connected with Cheadle Town FC will miss him dearly and we wish him all the best as he takes time out from football.

We will post a separate article about his time here in the very near future.

Cheadle Town Reserves 2-1 AFC Macclesfield

Our Reserves squad came from behind to win the Stockport DFA Cup on an excellent night at Edgeley Park

The SDFA Cup

Ours once more...

As far as the league campaign goes, our Reserves may not have had the best of seasons but they picked up the Stockport DFA Cup - some of you may know it by its old name of the Stockport Senior Cup - thanks to a 2-1 win over AFC Macclesfield at Edgeley Park.

We weren't really at the races for 99.9% of the first half and you could argue that AFC Macclesfield deserved the 1-0 lead that they took on 25 minutes; despite the best efforts of Ryan Allcock to save an initial effort the rebound was slammed home.

However, towards the end of the half we start to awake.

'Jockey' Mclaughlin brought an excellent save from the Macclesfield keeper with a low, curling drive before we drew level with virtually the last kick of the half; Dean Nolan showing some deft, neat footwork on the edge of the box before drilling low into the corner of the net.

With some guidance from First XI Manager Terry Hincks during their half-time talk the players came out for the second half a "different side".

Pressing higher up the pitch they hectored AFC Macclesfield into unforced errors in their own half and deservedly took the lead with 51 minutes gone thanks to Tom Ratican finishing from close range at the far post.

We had chances to extend the lead further but were thankful for two magnificent saves by Ryan Allcock in the latter stages of the second half to preserve our lead; he deservedly picked up the Man of the Match Award.

Well done to Chris Woods and his charges for bringing some silverware to the club.

Check out the video below which contains clips of the presentation after the final whistle....
